Extremely rare very early build ( May 1984, MK2 XR2 production only began April 1984 so this could be within days or weeks of the first car ).
I'm aware that there are a few B Registered cars around but I'm referring to the date of build when I say it's the earliest known example. The date is pretty easy to decode and this is as mentioned a May 1984 build.
1 Owner from new ( 0 previous owners on the V5 which is the old style )
Completely original unrestored car, yes it's had touch ups over the years ( and a slightly newer stereo fitted ) but all in it's completely original both mechanically and bodily. I would say that the leading edge of the bonnet has been touched in and sprayed and the bottom of the drivers door / rear quarter also.
Never welded, extremely solid car.
Lots of history and invoices plus pretty much all of it's old tax discs up to 95'

Wheels are original to the car and are date stamped 04/84.
Undersealed from new.
Lots of rare early parts which include but limited to -
* Rainbow Interior
* Side Indicator Delete
* Cassette Drawer
* Electric Boot Release
* Metal Fan Shroud
* Weber 32/34 Carb ( Rebuilt Last Month And Original To The Car )
* External Spark Amplifier
* Early Head Rests
* Map Pocket On Seat Rear
* 20 Slot Scuttle Panel
And much more which identifies this as a very early car.

We purchased this from the original owner whom purchased it brand new. He, back in 1983, had pre ordered the first of the XR2 MK2 from Holker Ford in Barrow in Furness ( Local to us ). His new car was to be delayed when production had stopped however Holker Ford kindly agreed to sell him their demonstrator on the proviso that they could keep it in their showroom for a few months until as a static display until stock started to come back through.
On August 1984 the car was registered and delivered to John, John enjoyed the car using it to travel to work and carry his family around until 1995 when, due to a failed alternator, the car was laid up under a cover in a shed. It lay there until October 2023 when we purchased it.
When the car arrived with us it had a seized engine due to sitting, we were able to unseize this and it now starts, runs and drives just fine. No rattles and no smoke at all. The carb has been rebuilt with a genuine kit, the brakes have been gone through with new callipers, flexis, fluid flush, pads, shoes and various clips etc. The original callipers will come with the car.
The car has a factory fitted sunroof which comes with it's own bag and spot lights fitted from new also.
Once we inspected the car we decided to leave it as is due to it's originality and just recommission it, we don't think it would be in the interests of the car to restore it although this would be an excellent candidate to do so. I would fully expect this car to be the most original early car available, it really is amazing.
They're only original once!!
Interior shows little wear and all the rare to find parts are still with the car, parcel shelf is uncut as are the door panels. Parcel shelf hanging rubbers are present, as are waffle mats, cassette tray etc, etc.

I would recommend viewing this extremely rare car, an absolute must for the collector of rare and unique Fords.
The value in this car will be due to the following -
* May 1984 build date ( production began in April 1984 ) - it's the earliest example anyone knows of the forums which isn't a press car
* 1 owner from new
* All original car with minimal touch ins over the years
* Numbers matching car
A superb investment.
